Things that go into the decision
- How often it needs repair
- Frequent repairs are one factor to weigh against the cost of a new system. They are not an automatic reason to replace.
- The age and condition of the equipment
- Age matters, and so does how the system has been maintained. Outdoor units near the shore are also exposed to salt air.
- The refrigerant it uses
- Production and import of R-22 ended in the United States in 2020. Existing R-22 systems can still be serviced with reclaimed or previously produced refrigerant. Whether to repair or replace depends on the diagnosis and the costs.
- Comfort and operating cost
- If the house is not comfortable or bills have risen, we look at whether the equipment, the ductwork or something else is responsible.

What depends on the evaluation
Equipment size, ductwork changes and electrical work all affect price and duration, and they cannot be settled without seeing the home. After the installation we start the system, check that it is working and walk you through the thermostat.
