- On a furnace this can involve the igniter, flame sensor or gas valve. On a heat pump the causes are different. Testing tells us which.
- The system will not start
- The cause can be the thermostat, a control board, a safety switch or power to the unit.
- It starts, then shuts off
- A dirty flame sensor, overheating or restricted airflow are among the possible causes.
- Some rooms stay cold
- This can come from airflow, ductwork or equipment problems. It takes an on-site look to tell.
- A burning or electrical smell
- Turn the system off and contact us. If you smell gas, follow the gas safety steps below first.
- Heating bills are climbing
- One possible cause is a heat pump relying heavily on its backup heat. There are others, and we check.

Do you repair heat pumps as well as furnaces?
Yes. We work on both, and they fail in different ways, so it helps to tell us which one you have.
Is there anything I can check before contacting you?
You can confirm the thermostat is set to heat and has working batteries, that the filter is not clogged, and that the system's switch and breaker are on. Please do not open the equipment.
I smell gas. What should I do?
Leave the house right away. From outside, call your gas utility's emergency line or 911. Once they have made it safe, we can look at the equipment.
Is there a charge for coming out to look at it?
